The making of KA.LV: A Lesson in Communication and Adaptability

KA has been shaping Latvia’s public conversation for more than two decades. As the country’s leading (and oldest) communications agency, they know better than anyone that real impact doesn’t come from shouting the loudest - it comes from saying the right thing at the right time.

For us, that became the guiding principle. This time around, the challenge wasn’t about flashy effects or piling on features. It was about finding a balance: creating visuals with that DigiComm “wow” factor, while keeping the site simple, clear and true to KA’s identity. The site had to be a story told in KA’s voice, from the first scroll to the closing footer.

There was just one catch: it all had to be done in two weeks, before the candles were lit on KA’s 25th birthday cake.

A Lesson in Communication

When DigiComm joined the project, KA already had a wireframe in progress. But rather than following someone else’s blueprint, we politely parked it. Instead, we asked questions, listened closely and dug into KA’s brand.

From the very beginning, KA made their wish clear: keep it simple. DigiComm, meanwhile, is known for playful details and bold concepts. The tension between these two ideas was obvious - how do you create something visually striking without overwhelming the message?

The answer turned out to be the same principle KA has built its reputation on for 25 years: communication. By listening, adapting and even stepping back from our own habits when needed, DigiComm found a balance that served both the brand and the project.

The Creative Approach

The starting point was KA’s own brand book. The typography and color palette were carefully lifted from KA’s existing system to keep consistency. Though one detail immediately stood out to us: the speech bubble. Simple, recognizable and directly tied to their identity, it became the visual anchor of the entire site.

Setting the scene

The site opens on a black screen with a simple line of text: “25 years of creating meaningful relationships.” As you scroll, the edges pop in to reveal the shape of a speech bubble - KA’s story beginning with the symbol they’ve owned for decades.

Ka Intro

Speaking Through Motion

As visitors keep scrolling, the familiar elements of a website appear along the top edge - KA’s name and sections like “work”, “who we are”, and “get in touch”. Instead of static text, each element slides in as a black block that transforms into words. This wasn’t a plug-and-play solution - rather a coded effect that took quite a few man-hours, all to make the result feel clean, light and fun. No regrets.

Clarity in Structure

After the opening visuals, the site shifts into content about KA itself. Visitors move through photos and a clear list of services - communication, digital, creative, events. This flows naturally into a gallery of featured projects, each with a photo, title and service tags, followed by a straightforward list of awards. Everything is presented cleanly and in a logical order, letting KA’s work speak for itself without unnecessary clutter.

Layers in Storytelling

In designing the site, the goal for us wasn’t just to present information, but to let it unfold naturally. Each section builds on the last, guiding the visitor from introduction to services, projects and achievements. Beneath the surface, the storytelling works in layers - not only in what’s said directly, but in the visuals chosen, the pacing of transitions and the way the narrative reveals itself step by step, ultimately concluding in a satisfying way.

The black and white theme used throughout the site is a representation of professionalism and simplicity. The snappy, randomized animations reflect KA’s work - effective and attention-grabbing, but also quick and creative. Together, these choices create a rhythm, cementing the idea that every detail is a part of the story being told.

Ka Layers in Storytelling

Transitions with Character

Each page transition features a black square sweeping across the screen - unfolding from the top corners and folding back into the bottom ones. The starting point and timing are randomized, so each shift feels fresh. Basically, we couldn't help ourselves and had to sprinkle in some of that DigiComm flavor somewhere.

“Who We Are”

Behind the scenes, this section went through more than a dozen iterations - tested and refined in Figma and browser sandboxes. It’s an important one to get right, and we had lots of ideas. While we were ready to experiment, it was crucial to refine these ideas until they aligned with the client’s vision. With the deadline approaching, there was no time to have an ego about these things - if the client doesn’t vibe with it, it’s a no-go.

In the current version, the “who we are” section pushes the creative envelope. The screen fills with vertical lines that react to the visitor’s mouse - expanding into images, then turning bold once you move further. The bold lines then reveal the letters KA, almost like pixel art. It’s playful, technical, and a reminder that communication often emerges from fragments coming together into meaning.

The Outcome

In just two weeks, DigiComm delivered a site that feels like KA: simple, confident and full of personality. The speech bubble gave the brand a clear anchor, while animations and transitions kept the experience dynamic without crossing into clutter. The objective was to tell KA’s story in a way that brings a clear statement, showcases their work and concludes by reaffirming the brand’s identity. The experience has a beginning, middle and end - a nod to the way KA has.

Along the way, DigiComm pulled together:

  • Website design and development
  • Custom animations and interactive effects
  • A clean showcase for KA’s services, projects, and awards

Most importantly, the process itself became proof of concept. By keeping communication at the center - listening, adapting and refining - DigiComm and KA pulled off a project that not only launched in time for the agency’s birthday, but also captured the essence of the things they’ve accomplished and where they are now.

Key Takeaways

  • Communication and storytelling isn’t just what KA does - it’s what made this project work.
  • Striking the right balance between simplicity and “wow factor” creates clarity without losing personality.
  • Listening and adapting beats ego every time, especially on a tight deadline. Additionally, it reinforces DigiComm’s image as a professional partner - showing that we know when to push and when to pivot.
  • A project doesn’t need months to succeed - two weeks of focused collaboration can deliver big results.
